A taupe living room is a staple in a lot of homes, even if you’re in an apartment. Unfortunately this is also one of the more popular colors just in furniture showrooms which means that it can end up feeling quite boring. It could even lack a focal point but it doesn’t have to.
One thing that you might want to consider is changing up the architectural elements in your space. You could do this just by painting your brick fireplace. However, this can seem a little bit too heavy. Plus, sometimes you get in a mentality that you shouldn’t touch brick but if it seems to dominate your room it might be one of your only options. White would be the basic color palette for this kind of project but just changing the color palette slightly keeps it neutral. You’ll also need to get a focal point in your space when you have a taupe living room. You can do this just by turning your fireplace into something that you love. You could do this just with a new screen that’s going to add texture but it’s also going to really use feminine scroll work. You’ll also want to consider going with more of a box style mantle for more of a contemporary kind of feeling. In this case you’re going to want to make sure that you get a totally new feeling with just a more substantial mantel. You could even add in a shelving system as long as you pay attention to fire safety and building codes. This can help you break up an expansive brick wall.
